كتاب بونيكا لسيليوس اتاليكوس حسم في امر سواد المور

كتب الشاعر والسياسي الروماني سيليوس اتاليكوس (ولد في اواخر القرن الثاني قبل الميلاد)، في الكتاب السابع من ملحمة بونيكا التي تؤرخ لأحداث الحرب البونيقية الثانيةː "والآن الرومان كانوا يقاتلون بشراسة ضد العدو المشتت والفار، عندما هرع فجأة تنجر الموري، عملاق رهيب، الى الصفوف الاولى من المعركة. جسده كان اسودا، وعربته الشامخة كانت مجرورة بخيول سوداء، العربة (اداة جديدة لقذف الرعب) كانت من نفس اللون كظهور الجياد الداكنة، وحرص على تثبيت ريشة من اللون ذاته على شارة راسه، كما كان الثوب الذي يرتديه اسودا كذلك".

Iamque in palantis ac uersos terga feroces pugnabant Itali, subitus cum mole pauenda terrificis Maurus prorumpit Tunger in armis. nigra uiro membra, et furui iuga celsa trahebant cornipedes, totusque nouae formidinis arte concolor aequabat liuentia currus equorum terga: nec erectis similes imponere cristis cessarat pennas, aterque tegebat amictus: ceu quondam aeternae regnator noctis, ad imos cum fugeret thalamos Hennaea uirgine rapta, egit nigrantem Stygia caligine currum.

And now the Romans were fighting fiercely against the straggling and fleeing foe, when suddenly Tunger, the Moor, a terrible giant, rushed forward to battle. His body was black, and his lofty chariot was drawn by black horses ; and the chariot — a new device to strike terror — was the same colour all over as the dusky backs of the steeds ; and on his lofty crest he had been careful to set a plume of the same hue ; and the garment he wore was black also.

وخط في الكتاب الثانيː " قطعان من الحيوانات البرية مطاردة من طرف الصيادين، واكواخ منحوتة تشع، ليس ببعيد تقوم شقيقة الموري السوداء (الكاتب استعمل هنا nigri الذي يعني اسود باللاتينية) والعنيفة بتهدئة اللبؤات بلغتها الام".

Herds of wild beasts chased by hunters, and African huts, carved in shining metal. Not far away the savage sunburnt sister of a blackamoor soothed lionesses, her companions, with her native speech.

وقال في الكتاب السابع عشرː "سيفاكس كان يسبق مركبتة، محمولا على كرسي عال، عيناه منحنيتان للأرض وعنقه مليء بالسلاسل الذهبية. ونرى بعد الملك الاسير، حانون المهزوم في اسبانيا، نخبة الشباب الفينيقي، قادة المقدونيين، ثم المور محروقو الوجه، الرحل، والغرمنتيون...."

ante Syphax feretro residens captiua premebat lumina, et auratae seruabant colla catenae, hic Hannon clarique genus Phoenissa iuuenta et Macetum primi atque incocti corpora Mauri, tum Nomades notusque sacro, cum lustrat harenas, Hammoni Garamas et semper naufraga Syrtis.

Before him went Syphax, borne on a litter, with the downcast eyes of a captive, and wearing chains of gold about his neck. Hanno walked there, with noble youths of Carthage; also the chief men of the Macedonians, with black-skinned Moors and Numidians, and the Garamantes....

 

واكد في الكتاب الثامن بان اجساد المور محروقة (adustus corpora Maurus) ، وهو نفس التعبير الذي كان يستعمله الاغريق لوصف اشد البشر سوادا (Αἰθίοψ  الذي يعني وجه محروق).

هامː الترجمة الانجليزية للنص فضلت كتابة معنى المقطع (dark skinned Moors) ولم تترجمه حرفيا.

 belligera Martemque rudis uersare nec ullo spectatus ferro, lingua sperabat adire ad dextrae decus atque e rostris bella ciebat. ergo alacer Fabiumque morae increpitare professus ad uulgum in patres petulantia uerba ferebat: 'Vos, quorum imperium est, consul praecepta modumque bellandi posco. sedeone aut montibus erro, dum mecum Garamas et adustus corpora Maurus diuidit Italiam?

Also, though a bad citizen, killful to stir up trouble and kindle hatred, he was helpless in the field, unpractised in the conduct of war, and not approved by any deed of valour; but he hoped to gain martial glory by his tongue and sounded the war-cry from the Rostrum. Therefore he bestirred himself; and, professing to blame Fabius for delay, he attacked the Senate in a speech to the people, as if he were already victorious: “The supreme power is yours,” he said, “and from you I, the consul, ask directions for the conduct of the war. Am I to do nothing, or to move from height to height, while Garamantians and dark skinned Moors share Italy with me, or am I to use the sword which you gird about me?

و هذه العملات التي وجدت في منطقة فال دي كيانا الايطالية  (Val di Chiana)، وتعود للقرن الثالث قبل الميلاد حينما غزا حنبعل ايطاليا عبر جبال الالب مصحوبا بأكثر من 38,000 جندي و8,000 فارس و 37 فيلا، تظهر رجلا موريا وفي الجانب الاخر فيلا هنديا. حيث جاء في الكتاب التاسع من ملحمة بونيكا للشاعر والسياسي الروماني سيليوس اتاليكوسː "حنبعل الذي كان يركب فرسا في الطليعة، امر الموري الذي يقود الفيلة بتهييجهم بشدة من اجل إطلاقهم في وسط المعركة ". 

SILIUS ITALICUS – PUNICA, Book IX 

For Hannibal rode along the line, and ordered the Moors, whose goads controlled the Lucan kine (Elephants) in battle, to prick their charges to speed, and to hasten forward.
